Adopting a Pet We require a signed adoption form and a fee to adopt a pet. The standard adoption fees are: puppies (under 6 months) $100, dogs $75, kittens (under 6 months) $75, and cats $65. An additional $10 is required for all adoptions to register the microchip. For purebreds or really desirable breed mixes we will charge more to offset us charging less for a “less desirable” breed mix. For example, a Cocker Spaniel’s $100 fee will help us to let a big black dog go home for less than $75. We have reduced fees for senior citizens and other special discounts. We can only accept checks written on banks that operate in Franklin County, Tennessee. Otherwise, we request that the adoption fee be paid in cash. Adopters must be at least 18 years old, and bring a photo ID. The adoption fee helps to pay for the following care: all of our pets are vet checked, up to date with vaccinations, dewormed, given a flea preventative such as Frontline or K9 Advantix, spayed or neutered and microchipped before adoption. All adult dogs are tested for heartworms and put on monthly preventative. Kittens are tested for feline leukemia (FeLV) and adult cats are tested for FIV, FeLV, and heartworms. All of our pets are given rabies shots when they are old enough. The adoption fee also includes a free visit to our veterinarian within 3 weeks of adoption as well as post-adoption counseling by our knowledgeable staff and volunteers.
