The Humane Society supports Therapy Dogs International Chapter 234, which provides a  Tail Waggin' Tutors program in the Franklin County schools.

Tail Waggin’ Tutors is a program that provides dogs to serve as listening partners for students who need extra reading help. Research shows that children with low self-esteem of often more willing to interact with therapy animals than with people because it gives them a nonjudgmental environment in which to read.

Canine Tutors Sabbath and Mickey are ready to begin the 2010-2011 school year.   Sabbath is owned by Sarah Doyi, and Mickey is owned by Kathy Solomon. Sabbath was an Animal Harbor dog before being adopted by Sarah.

The newest member of TDI Chapter 234 is Star, owned by Lucia Dale. Star was also adopted from Animal Harbor. Star visits hospital patients and nursing home residents. We are very proud of our Animal Harbor graduates!

Hendrix, the Tail Waggin' Tutor, is shown here with Lexi Shelnutt, one of "his" students, at Huntland School. (2009)
